Anne Quicke Obituary

Anne Bolling Weisiger Quicke, 92, of Blackstone, Virginia, passed away peacefully in her home on April 7, 2024. Anne was born on June 4, 1931 to Katherine and Clarence Weisiger of Earls, Virginia. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert A. Quicke, daughter Bolling Scott, son-in-law Peter Brickley, and two sisters, Katherine Stark and Sara Irby.

She is survived by her children, Sarah Randolph Brickley, Robert A. Quicke, Jr. (Betsy), and C. Duncan Quicke (Katie); son-in-law George C. Scott; sister Martha W. Fraher (Edward); nine grandchildren, Richard Cobbs (Rachel), Katie Bretz (Ben), Ginny Astle (Brian), Robert Quicke (Janis), Morgan Quicke (Tiffany), Chandler Craddock (Cayce), Anne-Randolph Carter (Parry), Taylor Quicke (Brittany) and Ford Scott (Jen); 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Anne attended Amelia High School and Randolph-Macon Woman’s College. She was a devoted member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, where she served on the vestry and played the organ and piano for many years. She also taught preschool and was a long-standing member of the Board of Directors at Kenston Forest School.

Anne cherished spending time with her family. “The more, the merrier” was her motto when it came to celebrations, holiday meals, and gatherings at her home. She loved to entertain and everyone always looked forward to her delicious meals and baked goods. Anne was proud of her community and took such delight in sitting down to visit with someone. These visits always included a family history about who was related to whom and where their “people” used to live.

Anne’s green thumb brought beauty to the world through her gardening. Her vases were always filled with an array of fresh flowers. Over the years, her hobbies also included playing bridge, sewing, walking, solving crossword puzzles, and cheering on the Kenston Forest Kavaliers. In the fall, you could find Anne decked out in orange and maroon, hosting the finest Hokie tailgate in Lot 1.

Anne’s life tells a story of dedication, service, love and grace. She was the ultimate hostess with a heart of gold who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

A memorial service and celebration of life for Anne will be held at The Elms, 226 Country Club Lane, Blackstone, VA on Saturday, April 20 at 11:00 a.m. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church or Kenston Forest School. Arrangements are by the Blackstone Chapel of the Joseph McMillian Funeral Home, 1826 Cox Road, Blackstone, VA 23824. www.mcmillianfuneralhome.com
